CarboTor™ can successfully replace Pet Coke

  • Petroleum coke (petcoke) is a byproduct of the oil refining process. As refineries seek to operate more efficiently and extract more gasoline and other high value fuels crude oil, a dark solid carbon material known as pet coke is produced.
  • Petcoke can take two different forms: Raw pet coke which is used as a fuel and calcined pet coke which is used as a feedstock by manufacturers for a wide range of products.
  • It is known to emit 11 per cent more greenhouse gases than coal.
  • India is the world's biggest consumer of pet coke in the world. An increased consumption of fuel grade pet coke has benefited from favorable logistics in certain areas where domestic coal supply has been constrained.
  • As the world’s largest consumer of pet coke, India imported over half its annual pet coke consumption mainly from the US which was providing low Sulphur pet coke.
  • It is important to note that the Supreme Court of India has banned the import of pet coke for use as fuel, but said shipments for use as feedstock in some industries is allowed.
  • Local producers include Indian Oil Corp, Reliance Industries and Bharat Petroleum Corp.
  • India does not produce low sulphur pet coke.
